December 2024
5-minute read
Hi Friends,
December is upon us and we are reflecting upon 2024, which has been a difficult year for many farmers dealing with suboptimal weather and commodity prices, but we've also seen some incredible successes among growers we work with.
We'll be posting year-in-review reflections on our social media pages this month.
Our prepay program offers a chance to make the most of your 2025 budget.
But first up, John Kempf will be hosting a year-end recap webinar with 3 growers:
1. John Kempf hosts a Year in Review
John Kempf, founder of Advancing Eco Agriculture, will host a webinar with three AEA growers, including:
Reflections on the successes, challenges, and milestones of 2024.
Lessons learned from the past year
Looking ahead to the opportunities and goals for 2025.
Last week, John Kempf wrapped up his six-part series of blog posts for market gardeners and small-scale growers.
He pointed out six essential steps that every small-scale grower needs to take in order to unlock their soil biology’s potential to provide plant nutrition.
Last month’s mystery crop was a tricky one, but 20 people correctly identified it:
Teff
(Eragrostis tef)
A staple crop in Ethiopia
One of the world’s oldest cultivated plants.
Our lucky winner, Roger from Iowa, encountered teff in a Senegalese learning garden while teaching a course in Agroecology. On Roger’s next trip to Senegal, he’ll be sporting a fly AEA hat.
(Teff can be distinguished from grains like wheat and rice by its fine, sparse grain heads that contain its tiny seeds, which are about the size of poppy seeds).
Can you name this month’s mystery crop that produces this incredible flower?
One lucky winner who guesses correctly will win an AEA hat.
